Aliwan Festival 2008 has a definite winner and that is Lumad Basakanon.. but there are others that argue that the Dinagyang deserved to win.. What do you guys think?
Aliwan Festival Photos 2008
I took most of my photos on film so that will have to wait till i get them processed.. but was able to take a few photos before the rain set in.. I used the horizon perfekt to get those wide angle shots.. I wish i had more time to shoot but the rain was nasty..
Am still awed at Lumad Basakanon winning 3 years in a row and to think the Aliwan Festival is only on its 6th year..
Lumad Basakanon in first place followed by Iloilo City’s Dinagyang Festival and Carmen, Cebu’s Sinulog Festival, which placed third.
Here are some photos of the aliwan festival before the rain.. more photos soon!

d300 test shot on iso 2000 taken at 6:03pm didnt bother shooting anymore.. it just wasnt worth it anymore..
well not for my taste, am sure there were others that stayed up all night shooting the festival.
Susan Arcega advised earlier that Reyna ng Aliwan 2008 crown goes to Mary Jean Lastimosa of Davao City.
/span>The winner of the Aliwan Float competition goes to Pamulinawen of Laoag City.
reported earlier, Lumad Basakanon is now 3time champion of the Aliwan Fiesta, the mother of all Festivals.my favorite contingent Tribu Paghidaet only made it to second place..
really thought they had a good chance of taking the crown this year. We have to wait another year to see if they can dethrown the 3 time champion Lumad Basakanon.
cant forget yesterdays rains..
the sky is clear.. I wonder if anyone was able to get pictures for the aliwan photo contest!
Streetdancing Competition
Aliwan Fiesta 2008 Winners
just got hold of the news… congratulations to the aliwan festival 2008 winners! despite the long and wet day.. the dancers still performed their best in high spirits.. shooting in the dark isnt much fun.. i hope that the organizers learn from their experience this year and give us a better show next year for both the audience and the contingents. my wish is that they start early morning instead of doing the festival at the end of the day.
GRAND WINNER 2008 ALIWAN FIESTA: Lumad Basakanon, Sinulog Festival of Cebu City
2ND PLACE WINNER 2008 ALIWAN FIESTA: Dinagyang Festival, Iloilo City
3RD PLACE WINNER 2008 ALIWAN FIESTA: Sinulog Festival, Carmen Cebu
photos coming up later!! more news coming up!
Rain, rain come again another day little tribes want to play! What a day.. It didnt even start and the rained poured heavily.. Poor contingents drenched and hiding under trees or whatever they can keep themselves safe from the rain. Will the rain stop? Will they perform? Its 4:45 and it still hasnt started.. Updates lateredited: parade started at 6:15 .. Too dark to shoot unless you want to slow sync and play with motion blur! I prefer to shoot any fiesta with a bit of sun.. The rain ruins any happy festive mood.. but despite the rain.. The show must go on.. My bet for aliwan 2008 champions is TRIBU PAGHIDAET from the Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo City.it is now 630 and too dark.. We are now officially watching the festival! Good luck to all the photographers joining the contest!
Who is the fairest of them all? Find out tonight as the Reyna ng Aliwan Beauty Pageant unfolds.. The Aliwan Festival’s maidens take center stage to vie for the 2008 Reyna ng Aliwan Fiesta.. the winner will be crowned as the Aliwan Festival Queen!
Sorry didnt have time to get their names and which tribes they represent.. I woke up at 4am and was still in a daze especially when they were presented to the public earlier this morning.
See them again tom with their respective Aliwan Tribes during the street dancing competition… announcement of Reyna ng Aliwan Winners to Follow!

This is the Search for Reyna ng Aliwan 2008. Take your pick! Who is your choice for this years Reyna Ng Aliwan?
Got up at 4am today to get ready to shoot the Aliwan Fiesta Preparations and Presentation to the “Unang Hirit” morning show. A few of the festival arrived early and performed live for the unang hirit show.
Here is what to expect for Tommorrow’s grand festival at the Quirino Grand Stand. all photos below are of the Aliwan 2008 contingents so this is the costumes you will be shooting tom!
There is a reported total of 27 Tribes tom! how many will show up? that remains to be seen..

Stories of Photos being downloaded and used left and right is more rampant today than ever. I was meeting with a friend and he said that clients asked him to download photos for use for an ad campaign. I said I would be the first one to report him! He said that he was joking and he knew it was wrong and explained to the client that it was cheaper to buy a photo then put up with a billing that would be dictated by the photographer with a “penalty charge” for use without permission.
What to do when you become a Victim of Copyright Infringement.
I have had enough with my claims with Manila Bulletin, It is about time i move on and go after them legally. Yes, within a few weeks you will hear updates on my story of how a major daily like Manila Bulletin stole my photos
I hope that online copyright violations go down to a minimum and hope that all media practioners be aware of copyright and intellectual property rights. Nothing in this world is free. If its online, it isnt free… to steal.. it is free to look at and admire but please respect the artist and ask permission or offer to pay for use of the image or photo!
Here are top cases of copyright violation in the Philippines.
Respect Intellectual Property Rights!
I was going over some film that have been wanting to be processed.. here is a batch shot on my Horizon Perfekt taken at Cutud Pampanga. Shot on Astia 100 and cross processed.. (big mistake! it came out too red! sample below) fixed photos below by converting it to black and white then toning it..

Here is what Astia looks when it is cross processed! so red.. had to tone it down bit..
